2008 Andrew Jackson Presidential Coin - 7th President, 1829-1837 Feature
In 2005, President Bush signed the Presidential Coin Act authorizing the United States Mint to strike coins honoring America's Presidents in the order in which they served. This coin, the seventh in the Presidential Coin Program, honors President Andrew Jackson.
As President, Jackson worked to strengthen the executive branch and vetoed more bills than the six prior presidents combined. His renomination to a second term marked the first use of a national nominating convention to select a party's candidate instead of a congressional caucus.
A strong proponent of federal supremacy over states' rights, he took a forceful stance against the state of South Carolina's attempt to nullify a federal tariff, declaring "Our federal Union: it must be preserved."
The Andrew Jackson Presidential Coin features a likeness of Jackson on the obverse and a reverse design with a striking rendition of the Statue of Liberty. This coin features larger, more dramatic artwork, as well as edge-incused inscriptions of the year, "E Pluribus Unum," "In God We Trust," and the mint mark.
These Andrew Jackson Presidential Coins are circulating condition coins and can be used in daily transactions. However, because these coins have never been circulated, they also make a great addition to your private collection or a wonderful gift for someone special.
